Rumor has it that Samara Weaving is starring in a Tank Girl remake coming out in 2024, but is it true? In other words, “Daddy, are you sure this is right?”

Tank Girl is one of the great, under-appreciated comic book adaptations of the ’90s; a post-Mad Max, feminist cult classic that barely made back a fifth of its budget at the box office.

It starred Lori Petty as Rebecca Buck, the titular Tank Girl, who teams up with Jet Girl (Naomi Watts) to take down Kesslee (Malcolm McDowell), the head of an evil corporation that took control of the world’s water supply after a comet turned Earth into a barren wasteland.

Nearly three decades after its original release, there’s supposedly a remake in the works – but is it true?

Is the Tank Girl remake with Samara Weaving real?

No, Samara Weaving isn’t starring in a Tank Girl remake.

This rumor comes from YODA BBY ABY, a Facebook page with a reputation for made-up news. Just this week, it made thousands of people believe that a Clueless sequel was happening – and it absolutely isn’t.

Alongside the fake poster, the caption reads: “Dive into the dystopian future with Samara Weaving as Tank Girl in the most explosive action-comedy of 2024, hitting theaters this July.

“Join her in a high-octane rebellion against the tyrannical Water & Power, leading a band of misfits and mutant kangaroo soldiers to fight for the last of Earth’s water. Tank Girl promises a wild ride through a punk-rock wasteland, packed with humor, heart, and a hefty dose of havoc – don’t miss the revolution.”

This isn’t to say we won’t see another Tank Girl film someday. Margot Robbie’s production company Lucky Chap acquired the rights in 2019, even tapping Dreamland’s Miles Joris-Peyrafitte to direct it. However, the project was put on hold during the pandemic and there haven’t been any updates since.
