Friends come and go, but the squad of characters at McDonald’s has always had a special place in our hearts. From birthday parties to Happy Meals to trips to the McDonald’s PlayPlace, Ronald McDonald and his crew defined our childhoods.
And now, it’s time to celebrate one of the most iconic McDonald’s mascots: Grimace! The big purple character is turning 51 years young this year. So the fast food chain is honoring this milkshake-loving monster by releasing a limited-edition birthday menu.
The McDonald’s Grimace Birthday Meal comes with your choice of a Big Mac or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, fries, and a special purple shake. This pastel lavender treat is made with vanilla soft serve and berry-flavored goodness.
McDonald’s is also launching a line of Grimace-inspired merch, including t-shirts, socks, and even a pool floatie! And to top it all off, the chain is partnering with Krool Toys to release a Grimace-themed racing game.
The meal, merch, and video game will all be available starting on June 12th. But Delish invited the birthday boy himself over to our New York City office to try his limited-edition meal ahead of the launch.
And to say our office was excited is the understatement of the century. People jumped out of their chairs and ran out of meetings to get a selfie with the guest of honor.
Grimace is, of course, a gracious guest, and brought over plenty of shakes for us to try. The verdict? It’s delicious!
The swirl of vanilla and berry tastes reminiscent of the colorful yogurt cups we used to love as kids. Our director of content operations Lindsey Ramsey described it as "the sweetest berry smoothie of your life." While it's not something we could see ourselves drinking on the regular, this shake is definitely a special-occasion birthday treat.
