Son of family that were driven out of Amityville horror house recalls voices saying 'will you please stop' as they tried an exorcism in gripping new documentary

The middle child in the 'Amityville horror family' has recalled hearing paranormal voices in a new documentary.

Christopher Lutz, 52, was just a six-year-old boy when his family moved into the Long Island property which had previously been home to a brutal murder.

He and his parents reported 'paranormal activities' at the property and fled - their experience inspiring a book, a 1979 movie and plenty of column inches disputing their claims.

Now he features in a new BBC2 documentary, Amityville: An Origin History, sharing his experiences - and recollected ghostly sightings and voices.

'I was laying on my bed looking out into the hallway, and right in front of the door there was a figure. It looked like a shadow, it didn't have legs that touched the ground,' Christopher recalled.

'As I'm looking at this thing, it's coming towards me and I was petrified,' he added.

His family only lived in 112 Ocean Avenue for 28 days in 1975 but their story quickly became famous.

The year before they moved in, 23-year-old Ronald 'Butch' DeFeo had shot his parents and four siblings dead as they slept.

He was found guilty on six counts of second-degree murder, and is currently imprisoned at Green Haven Correctional Facility in Beekman.

The Lutzs - Kathy, her three children Daniel, Christopher and Missy and new husband George - soon reported strange goings on after they moved into the same house.

The family said many of the things that happened there echoed the events of the murder and strange smells, cold drafts and moving objects completed their experiences.

In BBC2's latest documentary, Christopher recalled the time that his family invited a priest to the house to cleanse it of spirits.

'The last week that we were there was the worst', he said. Christopher added: 'The family had a priest come to the house to bless every room in the house.'

He said: 'We heard a chorus of voices scream out 'Will you please stop?''

The priest who visited the home also said he heard a voice telling him to 'Get Out', which later made famous as a soundbite in the movie of their story.

The Lutzs tried to bless the house but they said they experienced things that were 'too frightening' to bear repeating that night.

One incident that Christopher recalled involved his older brother, Danny Lutz, now 58.

'I remember them have us go around and open all of the windows, and what they were trying to do was basically their own exorcism of the house,' Christopher said.

'And here they were walking around saying these prayers.

'It was afterwards when they had us close then windows, and that was when the incident with Danny's hand happened,' he added.

The 52-year-old said that as they shut the windows, a heavy window frame mysteriously slammed on his brother's hand, causing him a lot of pain.

'My mum trying to get the window off his hand took more time than it should have, and Danny was screaming in pain,' he said.

They later said they believed DeFeo could have been possessed by the evil lurking in the property.

Their story was told in a best-selling book by Jay Anson in 1977. It was made into the famous film starring James Brolin and Margot kidder.

Many dismissed them as trying to profit commericialy from made-up experiences.

But Danny Lutz's account backs those previously given by his parents, who are now deceased.

The brutal killings of the family-of-six and the supposed spooky ghouls experienced by the Lutz family would later inspire the cult-classic film - The Amityville Horror.

On November 13, 1974, Ronald DeFeo Jr brutally slaughtered his entire family in their Ocean Avenue home in Amityville, Long Island.

While they slept, the then-23-year-old, killed all six of his relatives with a 0.35-caliber Marlin lever-action rifle.

DeFeo, who also adopted the nickname Butch, went to the local bar later that same day, weeping that his two sisters, two brothers, mother and father had all been killed.

A group of the killer's friends headed to the DeFeo's home and were met with a grisly scene, discovering all six of DeFeo's relatives face down on their beds.

Hours prior, DeFeo had claimed his first victim, Ronald DeFeo Sr, 43, also known as Big Ronnie, who he shot twice.

According to Ric Osuna - author of The Night The DeFeos Died - the father-of-five was abusive to his eldest son and would try to violently discipline him when he was younger.

DeFeo then went on to claim his second victim, his mother and former model, Louise.

Louise, 43, who similarly to Ronald Sr was shot twice, was believed to be awake when she was murdered.

The murderer then went on to take the life of his sister Dawn, 18, who he alleged was the one responsible for the gruesome killings in a 1986 Newsday interview.

In 2000, whilst talking with Ric Osuna, the murderer continued to lay blame with his late sister, claiming that he, his sister, and two friends had plotted to kill the family 'out of desperation'.

According to DeFeo, the plan was born out of retaliation to their father's regular abuse.

In a 440 motion that he filed in 1990, the killer claimed he had accidentally killed Dawn in the midst of a struggle after she had murdered their entire family.

DeFeo said he rendered his sister unconscious onto a bed, and then proceeded to shoot her in the head.

After claiming Dawn's life, he gunned down his younger sister Allison, 13, who was reportedly awake when she was shot in the head.

The 23-year-old proceeded to murder his two youngest siblings - Marc DeFeo, 12, and John DeFeo, nine - shooting both from close range while they lay in bed.

All six of the Amityville victims later were laid to rest at Saint Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.

Amityville: An Origin Story is set to air on BBC Two tonight at 9PM.
