In the early days of their 'ship, they reportedly didn't even follow each other on socials—so sliding into DMs is out of the question regarding their meet-cute. That being said, there's a ton of mystery surrounding these two and how their paths crossed—especially because they tend to keep details pretty private. Here's everything there is to know about Jake Gyllenhaal and Jeanne Cadieu's low-key relationship timeline.

2018

In June 2018, romance rumors between Jake and Jeanne started swirling when they were spotted visiting a mutual friend in New York City. That summer, they were also seen taking a stroll together in Paris. An insider seemingly confirmed their relationship to Us Weekly in December 2018, saying, "She and Jake really took things slow, but are now pretty serious."

2019

A couple of months later in May, Jake and Jeanne were photographed during a breakfast date in Los Angeles. The couple had been keeping their 'ship under wraps at this point, but a few months later in August 2019, Jeanne fueled romance rumors as she posed on the red carpet for the Broadway preview of Jake's Tony-nominated play Sea Wall/A Life. Later that night, they attended the show's after-party together.

In August, Page Six reported that Jeanne met Jake's family and that "they’ve been on a trip to Martha’s Vineyard together." According to the outlet, they also reportedly participated in an art project together as pics of them were featured in the Hudson Theatre's "Inside Out" photo exhibition.

2020

Fast forward another year, when the Coronavirus pandemic took over the world. The pair reportedly quarantined together in Jamie Lee Curtis' LA guesthouse (ICYMI, the Halloween actor is his godmother! Iconic). "In a lot of ways, we're family,” Jake said of the model during a 2022 interview with Esquire. "I'm in a relationship that is full of love and support. I feel so at ease."

In May, Jake gave a rare glimpse into his love life during an interview with British Vogue. The Oscar nominee admitted that he'd "lightened up" over the years and said, "I've turned to my family, I've turned to my friends and I've turned to love. I'm a little less interested in the work, I would say, and more interested in that." He also added that he'd "definitely" want to have kids one day down the road.

2021

In 2021, Jake and Jeanne started making more public appearances together. First things first, they attended the Tony Awards together and posed separately:

Two days later, they accidentally made their red carpet at The Lost Daughter premiere when Jake's sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, pulled them to pose for photos with her. "They looked cozy together. He wrapped his arm around her for photo opps. She seems to get along with Maggie and Peter well like she's already part of the family," an insider told Us Weekly of Jake and Jeanne during the film's premiere.

"My sister grabbed her, pulled her on that red carpet, which I think neither of us are really inclined to, you know, go on—even me. And to be there to support my sister was what we’re there to do and I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, this is family,’" Jake explained on The Howard Stern Show. He also dished about hopes for his personal life. "All I want is to be a good husband and a father. ... That really is what I want. And now that I have fulfilled a lot of things in my career that I feel comfortable with, I can safely say that. I don't know if I could have said that before."

He continued, "There's only so far I'll go as, you know, in talking about [our relationship]. I love her so much. She's such a good person."

2022

Jake spoke about his experience quarantining with Jeanne during an interview with Esquire, saying, "I'm not unaware that there's interest in my life. My life is wonderful. I have a relationship that is truly wonderful, and I have a family I love so much. And this whole period of time has made me realize that."

A few months later in September, Jake released a children's book inspired by his relationship with his nieces called The Secret Society of Aunts and Uncles. He spoke with People and subtly gave Jeanne a sweet nod while promoting the project.

"It's all about growing together and listening and being open. It's really not much different from any relationship when it works," Jake dished to the outlet. "The end of this book is: I see you. And if you listen and you try and pay attention — which we don't always do, all of us, perfectly all the time — but if we're trying and headed in that direction, then things last and grow. It's about being seen for who we are."

2024

As one of the faces for Prada's latest campaigns, Jake attended the fashion house's Fall/Winter Menswear fashion show with Jeanne during Milan Fashion Week in January.
