You’re Going To See A Lot Of The Navy Blue Oilers Jersey In 2021-22

Dark blue uniform expected to get plenty of play at Rogers Place in upcoming season

The Oilers appear to be making another change to their uniform routine.

Alright, so if you’re keeping score at home, it looks like this:

  • Mostly the dark navy coloured jerseys at home next season. They look like they’re completely black on TV, but then again, my TV is old.
  • The much debated bright orange jerseys will play as an alternate home jersey.
  • Don’t expect to see the “reverse retro” jerseys at all next year, even though the Oilers only wore theirs for a few games this past season.
  • Royal Blues in 2022-23?

The “Fridays at home” jersey from 2019-20 looks to become the club’s regular home kits in 2021-22. Fans are divided on the bright orange jersey, and it sounds like they won’t see it a whole bunch in this upcoming season. The nugget in all of this that I find interesting is the part about the return to royal blue in 2022: would it be a return to the style made famous during the glory days? Would it be a modern take like Bakersfield currently uses?

Didn’t hear anything about the current away white jerseys. Expect those to hang around, at least this year. The reverse retro jerseys that were used briefly this past season are also not likely to return. I kind of enjoyed those, they gave me a little bit of an Alberta Oilers vibe from the 70s.

Something I think that also goes fairly unnoticed is that the darker orange jerseys that were released for the 2016-17 season were pretty popular. I think a significant chunk of the fanbase would enjoy seeing those make a return. I also believe that a significant chunk of the fanbase would appreciate it if the club would pick two jerseys and stick with them for a few years.

So there you have it. Dark blues and orange at home, away whites, and the bright orange as an alternate are what’s in store for 2021-22. Unless things change again.
