1935 Hupmobile 527-T Coupe

Hupmobile was an automobile company that produced cars built under the Hupp Motor Car Company name from 1909 through 1940. They were located in Detroit, Michigan. Their first car, the Model 20, was introduced to the public at the Detroit Auto Show in February 1909. Hupp would eventually abandon its conservatively styled product line and turn to industrial designer Raymond Loewy to design its new 1932 Hupp Cyclefender. This was a sleek roadster that did well at the track but sadly did not sell very well. Raymond Loewy, considered one of the most influential designers of all time, may be best remembered as the designer of various Studebakers.

1934 would see the introduction of another striking Loewy design automobile. This model would be known as the 'Aerodynamic'. The Series 527 coupe rides on a 127-inch wheelbase and is powered by a 120-horsepower straight-eight engine. The sleek aerodynamic design is among the first in a long line of Loewy's famous and distinctive automotive designs. Despite technical innovations, squabbles among stockholders and an attempted hostile takeover in 1935 took their toll on the company. By 1936 the company was forced to sell some of its plants and assents and in 1937, Hupmobile suspended manufacturing.

This 1935 Hupmobile Aerodynamic Coupe is a rare example of one of Raymond Loewy's most innovative designs. It is an 11,000-mile car that was restored to as-new condition. The current owner spent years pursuing the car, eventually trading a 1941 Cadillac convertible to obtain it.
