The Rub: Why is PETA protesting BBQ?

Memphis Commercial Appeal
Members of PETA demonstrate Saturday, March 7, 2015, outside the Iowa Ag Summit in Des Moines.

On this week's edition of The Rub, hosts Jimmy Shotwell and Forrest Goodman report on a weekend animal rights protest at a barbecue festival in Ohio and share their idea for their own protest.

Beginners and even pros will take interest in a new cookbook, "The South's Best Butts." Matt Moore traveled throughout the south to learn and sample all kinds of barbecue and the great sides to go with it. He joins the show to explain how definitions of barbecue depend on where you visit.

One of the area's successful cooking teams is Uncle Pookie and the Riblets. Mike Brinkman tells the story behind the name of his team and how he now sells the grill that made him an award-winning cook.

The show wraps with a question from Twitter, details on a barbecue contest in Dyersburg and a recipe for a pulled-pork Cuban sandwich.
