DescriptionThis strip was part of a large lot of late Little Orphan Annie originals which was offered through one of the comic book and comic art auctions at Sotheby's in the 1990s. It failed to sell, and some time later it appeared on eBay. As I recall it was then owned by either Heritage Auctions or someone connected to that company. I believe that it again failed to sell, and I bought it directly from the consignor afterwards. I particularly like the poignancy of the last panel -- it must have been incredibly difficult for Harold Gray to turn over his creations to a new artist after Gray had spent 44 years writing and drawing his famous comic strip.Social/Sharing |
