The Argentine professional sports club Club Atlético Boca Juniors presented recently before the Legislature of the City of Buenos Aires a project to expand their residence – the La Bombonera in Buenos Aires, Argentina – with the objective to hold 82,000 spectators.

‘Archysport’ stated that the above initiative has been spearheaded by the President of Boca, Jorge Amor Ameal, and the project ‘Bonbonniere 360’ is all about expanding the Alberto J. Armando Stadium for which the urban regulations in place will have to be tweaked along with the ‘yes’ vote of 40 legislators.

Club Atlético Boca Juniors is an Argentine professional sports club based in La Boca, a neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The club is best known for its professional football team which, since its promotion in 1913, has always played in the Argentine Primera División, the top division of the Argentine football league system.

The 54,000-capacity Alberto José Armando Stadium is a football stadium located in La Boca, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Widely known as La Bombonera due to its shape, with a ‘flat’ stand on one side of the pitch and three steep stands round the rest of the stadium.

The project presentation stated, “The Bill promotes the modification of the urban regulations provided for in Special Equipment No. 56 ‘Stadium and Sports Complex of the Boca Juniors Athletic Club’ of the Urban Code that will allow the expansion of the current Alberto J. Armando Stadium of the Boca Juniors Athletic Club with a capacity of 82,000 spectators. In addition to sports use, such as football matches, the incorporation of other commercial and cultural uses is foreseen so it will be a futuristic stadium with multiple uses and will help in the development of the area.”

‘Archysport’ further stated that the project report also proposed “the location of a microstadium where sports, cultural and commercial activities can be carried out. The area skirting the facility should boast landscaped green spaces for public use.”

Along with Ameal, the Vice-President of Boca Juniors Juan Román Riquelme is also spearheading the project.

The ‘Bonbonniere 360’ project proposes the expansion of the facility by 20,000 seats and post-expansion, the arena will be able to accommodate circa 82,000 fans and it also proposes installing a lightweight roof around the perimeter.

‘Paudal’ stated that since its inauguration on May 25th, 1940, minor rejig work has been done on the La Bombonera. The master plan is to demolish the boxes and building three terraces identical to those of the stalls facing the West side of the facility. The community sitting in and around the stadium are open to the stadium expansion project.

‘Paudal’ further stated that commercial spaces with leading brand stores will come up, a tourist observatory tower and outdoor shows are also being planned.
