He may be known for his speedy serves and charming Midwestern smile, but Andy Roddick is also a man of interesting travel habits. We caught up with the retired tennis pro this weekend at a Starwood Preferred Guest event at the US Open, where he spilled on his favorite in-flight reading material and what it’s like to travel with his wife, model and actress Brooklyn Decker (who may or may not have a sleeping disorder)…

** What are three things that are always in your carry on?**

My iPad, a book, and it has to be in book form. With paper. I’m still into that. [I'm reading] Dan Brown’s Inferno. I was waiting for that one; I was excited about it. I read all the others, the prequels. And of course, my passport.

When you travel with your racket do you check it or carry it on? Are you superstitious about traveling with it?

“Well, back when I was a real athlete, it was funny because I would always take it on with me. I would take several of them. I would check six or seven and take on one or two with me. But now I can get away with a lot more.”

What’s the hardest or the easiest thing about traveling with your wife? Do you ever fight over the window seat?

“Oh please, her? No, she’s easy. She falls right asleep! She goes narcoleptic. I have sleep envy of her.”

Well there you have it tennis lovers. Brooklyn Decker has a mild case of narcolepsy and one should never travel without at least nine tennis rackets. Now if only Roddick could squeeze us in for a little one-on-one lesson…
