The Florida native has always had a knack for making people laugh. After her mother’s passing, when Rudolph was just seven years old, she dealt with the loss by turning to comedy. Growing up around show business, with her father being a music producer and her late mother a singer, Rudolph was not shy about performing in front of crowds. Her outgoing and fun-loving personality is what draws people into Rudolph’s performances. Rudolph turned her passion for comedy into a successful career spanning over the past 20 years. She is now one of Hollywood’s most popular comedian ladies. 

Rudolph’s Most Notable TV & Movie Roles

Rudolph is most recognized for her role in the much-loved sketch comedy TV show, Saturday Night Live. Her breakthrough opportunity to bring her wit to SNL allowed her to work with other aspiring comedians (and now widely known stars), such as Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.

Rudolph was a cast member on SNL from 2000 to 2007, and most recently returned as a guest with the impersonation of Senator Kamala Harris. Now that 2020 Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden has chosen Harris as his running mate, fans are hopeful to see more of Rudolph on the sketch comedy series. 

After leaving SNL in 2007, Rudolph had small roles in several other TV shows until her major role as one of the wives in the 2010 summer comedy Grown Ups. This was the kick-off to her widespread success with the very next year playing the bride in Bridesmaids, which she starred in alongside the funny ladies Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy. The successful romantic comedy skyrocketed Rudolph into the well-known, award-winning star she is today. 

After Bridesmaids, she also starred in Zookeeper, Friends with Kids, and the sequel to her first big-screen appearance, Grown Ups 2. Rudolph is also a popular voiceover actor. She has scored spots in Nut Job, The Emoji Movie, Big Hero 6, Angry Birds, and The Willoughbys. One of her most noted TV roles, besides SNL, is her role as the funny judge on NBC’s series The Good Place.

Is Maya Rudolph married? 

While Rudolph is not legally married, she calls her long-term partner filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, her husband, reports Good Housekeeping. According to her profile with The New York Times, she refers to Anderson as “my husband” in conversation and said it felt “ooky” to keep referring to him as her “boyfriend” after the birth of their, now teenage, daughter.

The couple began dating in 2001 and now have four children, Pearl, Minnie, Jack, and Lucille. While she revealed to US Weekly that she never envisioned having four kids, she said, “The triumph is the people that love each other. I mean, I feel lucky having — I never imagined I’d have four kids — that was never the goal. I feel really lucky that everyone is healthy and amazing.”
