Long Point Lighthouse Sunset Twillingate Newfoundland

The lighting at sunset tries to break through the dark clouds moving in over the Long Point Lighthouse in Twillingate in Newfoundland, Canada.

As the clouds darken over the Long Point Lighthouse in Twillingate, Newfoundland, the rays at sunset are still able to filter through the threatening clouds. These clouds could bring with them an overnight storm creating havoc for the mariners who travel these waters during the late hours.

The Long Point Lighthouse in Twillingate stands atop the cliffs at 300 feet above sea level giving visitors a spectacular view of the area. Built in 1876, the lantern flashes across the Notre Dame Bay where it can be seen for 22 nautical miles. A lighthouse keeper still tends to the Long Point Lighthouse and guides ships to safety on the foggy and stormy nights.

At times throughout the year, from the cliffs and the viewing platform at the Long Point Lighthouse, icebergs, whales and seals can be seen frequenting these waters. On cold, chilly days, visitors should dress appropriately while on North Twillingate Island as the wind coming off Notre Dame Bay can be felt right down to the bones, but the sunsets are still spectacular.
