Agave parryi var. huachucensis, or Huachuca Agave, is a drought tolerant, native succulent that is found in semi-desert grassland and woodland habitats at 4500-7000 ft. Its base of rounded, toothed leaves can grow to 3 ft tall before it sends up a flowering stalk at 15-20 years old, that averages 15 ft in height. This species readily reproduces vegetatively with clonal “pups,” and is often found in clusters or dense patches. It blooms in early summer and is pollinated by nectar-feeding bats. Plant in full sun and well-draining soil.
