Sweeping skyscrapers and glass façade office blocks - this the future of Birmingham's skyline, according to AI. The photoshopped reality of the city centre's horizon features soaring high rise buildings and lustrous architecture.

The futuristic skyline, created by Adobe and Photoshop creator Andrea Astarita, was designed to show what the UK's second city could look like in the year 2100. In the image, major landmarks defining the centre remain - including Selfridges, the Rotunda and St Martin's church in the Bullring.

But in the reimagined version, flashy new buildings tower high above the iconic structures. The Birmingham indoor market has been torn down in favour of a glass-fronted building, while the outdoor markets no longer exist - according to the AI image.

Birmingham was among five major cities in the UK to be photoshopped in the hopes of showing how the skyline could look heading into the new century.

In admiration of the structural and architectural landscapes across the UK, Adobe challenged Andrea to use Adobe Photoshop’s Generative Fill feature to reimagine the appearance of the cities. Birmingham, Belfast, London, Manchester and Glasgow were all photoshopped using AI as part of the task.
