For his first show with Cheim & Read (the Irish-born artist joined the gallery at the beginning of this year), Sean Scully presents eight new abstract paintings in his trademark style of wide, fuzzed-out stripes of glossy pigment. In additional to the oil-on-linen paintings are one pastel-on-paper work and, most strikingly, an almost 27-foot-wide, eight-panel painting on aluminum that shimmers despite its comparatively muted black-and-gray palette.
