It all started when my wife received a free water bottle. I realized I didn't have a good-sized, insulated beverage container, so I ordered this one and the magic began. I was slightly confused when I received the box, because I was expecting something much smaller. Then I opened the box and just started laughing at how enormous it is. Of course I couldn't admit to my wife that a mug was too big for me, so I poured in some water and sat down on the couch with it, waiting for her to get home. I believe she laughed at me once she saw it for around 5-10 minutes.
I have now had my Big Gulp for several months, and it has actually turned out to be one of my better purchases. I use it pretty much every evening. I fill it up about halfway with water at the beginning of each week, then fill it up the rest of the way with ice. I then drink from it for supper and throughout the evening. Then the next day when I get home from work, I just add more ice (since it is about impossible to even drink half of it in a short time and the melted ice keeps it about half full (bonus points for optimism)). I drink much more water now since I only add water or ice one time a day, and it keeps the drink nice and cold throughout the evening. In addition, since it's so large, I don't have to worry about clumsily knocking it over or one of my pets knocking it over.
I did purchase the 14" stainless steel straws that you can buy and those have been amazing. They come with a cleaning brush that ensures that I'm always drinking with a clean straw and doesn't just the taste of the water.
If you are looking for a GIANT mug that you can just keep close by, this is perfect. It is NOT small enough or light enough (when filled) to just carry around for extended periods of time, but it's great for just keeping handy at the house. I highly recommend it.
