I have the 1984 hardcover. Many color illustrations. Unlike Picasso, Paul did not throw away his realistic talents, but used them in different ways. In the Deadly Sins he sidesteps them completely. In some of his work he both uses them, and exaggerates to pointed effect, and in his life drawings gives realism full reign. Poor Picasso threw out the baby with the bathwater. Paul swam against the stream. He worked in oil and tempera. Much of the work has a satirical bent and is not pretty. Some of the other work shows an erotic interest in the male nude.
So much of it isn't harmonious & isn't what I would want on my wall, but is worth studying by painters and artists, to see how a talented individual can incorporate realism without being enslaved by it. Also satire is perhaps the wrong word, unvarnished look at unpleasant reality is perhaps more accurate. Paul was more an illustrator than a process painter, which goes with the medium of tempera.
