Airtoyz Powered Hang Glider Trike Training Programs

Ultralight Powered Hang Glider Trike Training

Single-place ultralight powered hang glider trikes, also known as ultralight trikes, PHG/PWS/WSC trikes, powered weight shift, weight shift control delta trikes, delta-wing trikes, regalo wing trikes, and ultralight trikes, are considered "ultralight vehicles" under FAA Part 103 regulations. No license or training is required, however, participating in a good training program that uses the FAA Weight-Shift Control Aircraft Flying Handbook (FAA-H-8083-5), the Aero Sports Connection (ASC) and the United States Powered Paragliding Association (USPPA) syllabii as its' foundation is critical to your safety!

When you join the Airtoyz Ultralight Aviatorz Club you become a "student for life"! Unlike most schools, we won't restrict you to a 5 to 7 day course! We understand that not everyone can take a week or more off work all at once. Sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate or there are gear malfunctions that take time to rectify. We believe that your long-term flying safety is more important than our bottom line! Airtoyz Instructors won't rush you into the air and then say you're good to go after just a few flights. Airtoyz students will be able to earn an Airtoyz 'Ace' rating (ASC PHG3 or PHG BFI) at their own pace and along the way you'll gain valuable knowledge that will serve you well. You can even become a tandem rated PHG instructor yourself! We're not the cheapest, but we do offer the most comprehensive training courses available in the USA. Training is available year-round and our winters are very mild.

We do our training at Red Dry Lake, just a few short miles from the Airtoyz service shops, where we have access to over 16 square miles of smooth dry lake bed. We have very consistent north/south winds, but even when they come from the east/west, we just move to another portion of the lake bed.

Students can RV or tent camp on the lake bed or on one of our properties where electric is available. We also have cots available in the glider shop.

FULL ULTRALIGHT POWERED HANG GLIDER TRIKE TRAINING (ASC Pilot/PHG2 / Airtoyz PHG 'Pilot' rating)
New students learn at different rates depending of their skills and previous flying experience, some will solo sooner than others, we will make sure that the necessary time will be taken to insure that you are trained safely and correctly. The Ultralight PHG trike full training typically takes 5 - 10 days (there is no time limit, your safety is too important to us), weather and student skills are the determining factors. Over the first few days the student will take multiple tandem flights with the instructor. In between flights, students will learn safety procedures, terminology, set up and maintenance of the flying gear, micro-meteorology (weather to fly), aviation regulations, and navigation. Once the student has mastered these techniques and has a clear understanding of the flight procedures, the student will take their first solo flight usually on the 2nd or 3rd day.
