Dypsis procera

#1

Post by Geoff »

medium to small closely clustering, understory Madagascan palm with short to no petioles and bifid leaves. Plant resembles Dypsis paludosa only smaller overall (leaves, thickness of stems and height) with less color in the leaf bases and crownshafts/stems. Also, unlike Dypsis paludosa, all Dypsis procera are bifid (not split leaf OR bifid). Grows as tall as 18' in nature, but rarely that tall in cultivation (more like 10'). Cold hardiness not well tested, but seems less cold hardy than D paludosa as well (maybe 34F).
