Milla Jovovich is joining the cast of “Future World,” James Franco’s new indie movie, according to WWD’s sister news site Deadline Hollywood.
The model-turned-actress will play a drug lord in the sci-fi movie, which will see Franco both acting and codirecting with Bruce Thierry Cheung.
Franco’s latest project features a post-apocalyptic, dystopian world where a young boy of noble birth embarks on a journey through the wasteland of this future world in order to find medicine for his dying mother. No release date has been determined at present time.
Last seen on the big screen as Katinka in “Zoolander 2,” the actress has appeared in numerous science fiction and action films, earning a reputation for playing futuristic action heroines. She landed a lead role in Luc Besson’s 1997 film “The Fifth Element,” alongside Bruce Willis and Gary Oldman. For her role as Leeloo, an alien who helps to save the planet, she wore a bodysuit made of medical bandages designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier. Jovovich has also starred in the “Resident Evil” films since 2002, and married “Resident Evil” director Paul W.S. Anderson in 2009.
On Tuesday, she attended the party thrown by jeweler De Grisogono on the sidelines of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Set to return as Alice in the sixth and allegedly last chapter of “Resident Evil,” titled “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,” Jovovich said she was done with the franchise after wrapping the sixth installment, due out next year. “It’s bittersweet, but at the same time, you know, all good things have to come to an end and hey, we had a great run,” she shrugged.
