These Korean braised sardines are flavorful, protein-packed, and the perfect warming dish. Onions, carrots, daikon radishes and a delicious sauce made with gochugaru, gochujang, curry powder, fresh garlic and ginger combine for a deeply savory dish.

These Korean braised sardines are flavorful, protein-packed, and the perfect warming dish. Onions, carrots, daikon radishes and a delicious sauce made withgochugaru, gochujang, curry powder, fresh garlic and ginger combine for a deeply savory dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 (4.4oz) can Wild Planet Wild Sardines in Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • 1/2 small Onion, sliced

  • 1 Carrot, sliced 

  • 1/4 Daikon Radish, sliced

  • 2 Green Onions (some reserved for garnish) 

  • Seasoning Sauce:

  • 2 Tbsp Soy sauce

  • 2 Tbsp Water

  • 1 Tbsp Sugar

  • 1 Tbsp Gochugaru

  • 1/2 tsp Curry powder  

  • 2 large cloves Garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp fresh Ginger, minced

  • 2 tbsp Gochujang

Directions

  1. Add some of the oil from the sardine can to the pan over medium low heat.

  2. Add slices of radish to the bottom of the pan, then add onion and carrots.

  3. Mix the ingredients for the seasoning sauce and set aside.

  4. Place the sardines on top of the vegetables and pour the seasoning sauce on top

  5. Add the whites of the green onions. Add a lid and simmer for 10 minutes.

  6. Remove the lid, spoon the sauce over the sardines and continue to cook for another 10 minutes.

  7. Serve with rice and enjoy.
