20 Things You Somehow Missed In Batman Returns

10. Vincent Schiavelli

Batman Returns
Warner Bros.

Before he sadly passed away from lung cancer in 2005, Vincent Schiavelli was one of those recognisable character actors who brought an extra special sinister edge and sometimes also an innocence to many of his roles.

Readers may remember him for his appearances as the nefarious torturer and murderer, Dr. Kaufman in the James Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies; the sympathetic Lanny, whose underdeveloped conjoined twin is more sinister than it seems in The X-Files episode, Humbug, and Jenny Calendar’s mysterious Uncle Enyos in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He had also co-starred with Danny DeVito in several episodes of the sitcom, Taxi, which ran from the late 1970s into the early 1980s.

Although his role in Batman Returns as The Organ Grinder, a vicious chief lieutenant to The Penguin, is brief, it is very memorable and unsettling, making his comeuppance at the hands of Batman all more rewarding.

Contributor

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
