Visiting Nassau and Half Moon Cay Bahamas

Bahamas Main

NASSAU

Nassau Bahamas, one of the busiest ports for cruising the Caribbean. Great beaches, cheap place to get movies and of course Atlantis. The food here was good but you had to get away from the tourist area to enjoy. After Hurricane Dorian the Bahamas had a long road to recovery and I can’t wait to get back to see.

Atlantis

Atlantis is a wonderful experience, not just for kids either. We grab a cab from downtown and made our way. We got a package that day to enjoy the waterpark as well as Marine Adventures. This was worth every dollar.

We explored the Marine area first taking in the underwater life including a manta ray which is my fav. We also got to see a hammer head and saw shark. This area I could spend days just watching them.

Next up was the waterslides. Now I am not a big fan of heights but peer pressure I made my way up. The first one I cam to looked like a cooking oven. I had my doubts but this young kid told me I had nothing to worry about. Petra, my dear friend, went first. I heard her scream for a short minute. I thought to myself ok it’s not that bad. Turns ok as I made my way down. The scream only lasts that long because your breath is taken away. When I got to the bottom I was relieved and terrified as I knew this was not the big slide. I stuck to the kids area the rest of the day 🙂

Walking Around Town

Nassau downtown is filled with a lot of history. Here are a few things you can check out without taking a tour.

The Queens Staircase. This staircase is located within the Fort Fincastle. The 66 steps were carved out from 1793-1794 by slaves as a path from Nassau to the fort. It was later renamed after Queen Victoria who ended slavery within the British Empire.

Oh the nightlife in Nassau. Now I will start off by saying that downtown is like any other city you need to be vigilant. Tropicana Bar was not far from the ship so we felt safe making the walk back. The music was amazing and the drinks were even better. The bar tenders were a blast and made our night.

Spending Christmas in a tropical country is such a great time. Senor Frogs again not far from the ship was a great place to enjoy some drinks and music. The highlight was the boat waving a Canadian Flag as it passed by.

Half Moon Cay

Halfmooncay 1

In 1996 Holland America Cruise Lines purchased Little San Salvador also known as Half Moon Cay. This is one of the over 600 archipelagos that make up the Bahamas. There are no hotels on this Island which makes it amazing to visit from a ship. This is a low water depth Island which means you will have to tender from your ship to the Island.

The beautiful white sand beaches and clear blue waters make this a gem. There are walking trails, bike paths and many water activities that you can do here. You could just take this time on your vacation to relax and read a good book under the palms in a hammock. Or Try out your dirty dancing moves in the water.
