A Guide to Huntsville, Ontario in the Fall

Huntsville, Ontario is the largest town in the region of Muskoka, also known as Ontario’s “cottage country”. This town is a very popular tourist destination for those looking to admire fall foliage. It is the perfect place to visit for a fall getaway. I hope you enjoy my guide to Huntsville, Ontario in the fall!

WHAT TO DO

Lion’s Lookout

The most popular thing to do in Huntsville in the fall is to visit Lion’s Lookout. This is the best place to see Huntsville’s foliage, and great views of downtown Huntsville and Fairy Lake. Follow Lookout Road up to the parking lot.

Heritage Place & View of Fairy Lake

Parallel to Lookout Road is Camp Kitchen Road. On this road you will walk along the Muskoka River and the Muskoka Heritage Place train track – so cute! The end of the road will bring you to a great view of Fairy Lake.

Main Street

Downtown Huntsville is very picturesque – it looks like a town from a Hallmark movie! Simply walk along Main Street west of the bridge and check out the various stores and restaurants. My favourite stores are Soapstones, Decorated on Main, Reflections of Muskoka, and Muskoka Bear Wear. For my favourite restaurants, keep reading!

Watercraft Rental

If you can’t get out on a boat in Muskoka, a great alternative is to rent a canoe, kayak, stand up paddle board, or pedal boat from Algonquin Outfitters in downtown Huntsville. From downtown, you can paddle along the Muskoka River to Fairy Lake and/or Hunters Bay and Lake Vernon. I highly recommend it!

Limberlost Forest

To escape the crowds in downtown Huntsville, I highly recommend visiting Limberlost Forest. Just a 25 minute drive from downtown, this amazing reserve gives free public access to numerous beautiful trails. Take Solitaire Lake Trail for an epic fall lookout!

For more details on specific hikes at Limberlost and in Muskoka, check out my blog post, “6 Winter Hikes in Muskoka, Ontario.”

Arrowhead Provincial Park

Arrowhead Provincial Park is just a 10 minute drive from downtown Huntsville and it has beautiful fall foliage. The Arrowhead Lake Trail has great views. Make sure to also check out Big Bend Lookout!

WHERE TO EAT

Huntsville is home to some great restaurants. My favourite restaurants are The Artisan House, 3 Guys and a Stove, Tall Trees, That Little Place by the Lights, and The Mill on Main. For dessert, BeaverTails, The Nutty Chocolatier, and Belly Ice Cream are all delicious. For drinks, Pub on the Docks is a must, and Canvas is a great brewery.
