Sydney is blessed with a plethora of sun-kissed sandy beaches, unquestionably Bondi Beach being the most reputed. Viewed as the quintessential Australian beach, the crescent-shaped stretch of sand flanked by sandstone cliffs, the pavilion with its elegant arches, and the surf lifesavers' distinctive red and yellow caps and flags are well-known images of Bondi Beach. It epitomises relaxed Australian beachfront lifestyle, dominated by bikinis and beer, especially in the summer months from December to February. The curly waves here draw surfers from round the globe. Experienced instructors from local surfing schools can get novices and beginners standing on a board in no time. Located just 30 minutes away from city centre by public transport, it is worth dropping by to watch the sun rising from the turquoise blue waters of the mighty Pacific Ocean. Other than swimming or lazing in the sun, there are plenty of other things to do, such as playing beach volleyball with locals, walking along the coastline to Coogee, which is yet another nearby beachfront location. Visitors could also go for a lazy coffee, long lunch, or a candle light dinner at one of local cafes or restaurants. Popular Bondi pubs such as the vibrant Beach Road Hotel and the prominent Bondi Hotel offer relaxed atmospheres where travellers from almost anywhere assemble to socialise while sampling the best Australian beer available. Bondi Beach also hosts the annual Sculpture by Sea, which is world's largest free-to-the-public outdoor sculpture exhibition.
