Of Man and Nature

Every Indian summer is a time of great joy. Families pack their bags and head out to the hills, hoping for relief from the heat of the plains. Ladakh is at the centre of every summer destination, after all, its glories are unmatched, its stories of adventures have stretched far and wide. At a time when India is battling a terrible disease that threatens to push us deeper into misery, we can only look back at those good times we have had in the past.

Here is a look at all the things that we love about Ladakh, all the things that we are going to miss out on this year.

The roads

The finest way to go on a tour to Ladakh is by road, and boy it is some journey. Ladakh is known for its spectacular landscape, and it is best experienced by road. While it is true that you do need a seasoned driver to make this a comfortable journey, it is also true that once you actually experience the journey, there is nothing that will ever match up to it. This is one of those destinations where the thrill of the journey is a major part of the destination.

For its Moonland

Ladakh is home to what is often commonly referred to as the Moonland. The place we are talking about is Lamayuru, and its landscape is like that of the moon. Lamayuru is known for one of the oldest and largest monasteries. Just about 2 hours and 15 minutes away from Leh, Lamayuru has always been one of the favourite destinations for travellers who come to Ladakh.

Its wonderful lakes

Visitors to Lakdah are always raving about its beautiful lakes, which is justifiable, given the fact that the lakes are just incredible beautiful. Pristine, and clear, surrounded by mountains, these lakes are mesmerising. You have to stop by these lakes while on the road to spend some time by them. Pangong Lake is of course one of the favourites, and we are going to miss it this year.

Its revered monasteries

Ladakh is home to some of the grandest monasteries. It is home to numerous Buddhists, hence it is only normal that there would be monasteries here. Prayer flags all around the place, Ladakh's monasteries certainly add to the charm. The oldest here is the Lamayuru Monastery.
