Moldova—a wine paradise you have not heard of

Situated between Romania and Ukraine, Moldova is a charming little place that is often overlooked by travellers. But now the world is waking up to its spectacular wineries that present a romantic opportunity for travel. The country does not really have a water body or mountains, yet it does have a beach, thanks to Chisinau Lake’s sandy shores. Even though the country is least visited Europe, it does have some spectacular attractions, such as marvellous monasteries, and of course the thing we are here to discuss, wine.

Moldova’s tryst with wine
Moldova’s position today as a wine destination is possible only because the country has a rich history when it comes to wine-making. A rather traditional country, Moldova is known for its wineries, both big and small. You can spend some beautiful days here in these wineries, and actually boost your experience to friends and family.

Grapes were grown in family farms for centuries in Moldova, and it is in fact one of the oldest Moldovan traditions. There was a time when Moldova was producing almost 70 percent of the USSR's wines, during that time it used to be a part of the Soviet landscape. It became an independent country after the fall of Soviet Russia in the year 1991.
Moldova’s wine record
Moldova—a wine paradise you have not heard of

The relatively unknown nation is actually one of the world’s finest wine destinations. So much so that it even has a Guinness World Record in this regard. The Milestii Mici wine cellar entered the Guinness World Record for being the largest wine cellar in the world. It in fact holds about 2 million bottles of wine in its 200 km space. Take some bottles home if you happen to visit here. Afterall, it is not any ordinary winery.

You can get a bottle of wine here at the Milestii Mici for 480 Euros.

Moldova also has the world’s second largest cellar, named Cricova. This one runs for 120 km, and in fact the tunnels here have existed since the 15th century. The best part about trying out these wines at the wineries is Moldova is perhaps the fact that you can also sample some delicious Moldovan dishes as well.
