Gauge: 5 stitches per inch
Pattern: Porcupine Stitch
Stitch Count Repeat: Multiples of 12 stitches

Notes: The stitch can be a little tough to follow initially, because the lace pattern is not obvious. Stick with it, however, and you have an interesting, completely reversible lace pattern!

Here is a close up of the porcupine stitch:
I have used this stitch very successfully with Moebius scarves. The stitch pattern makes grafting relatively easy because there are three rows of stockinette. Just use a provisional cast on and start on row 4 of the pattern. End on row 2, and your graft will serve as row 3! There is also a nice shrug in this pattern at http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring05/PATTido.html

This would make a gorgeous sweater to layer or beach over-top. Beautiful swatch and thanks for the detail up-close.

You can see Porcupine used in two very different ways in the wedding shrug “I Do” and the green stiped scarf “Anne Shirley” – both on Knitty.com.

Excellent swatch – but… am I imagining this? or is the photograph upside down?

I meant the first photograph, BTW – the detail one is right-side-up.
Also BTW – this stitch works surprisingly well in the other type of Moebius scarf, the “magical” kind where you do a provisional cast-on at the middle and knit outward.
