Care:

Tillandsia recurvata falls under the 8a-11 zones of USDA hardiness, which means it can survive in extreme temperatures like from 10-40 degrees Fahrenheit (from -12.2 to 4.5 degrees Celsius).

Tillandsias are very simple plants that require no soil, just plenty of water, sunlight, and airflow. There are three main watering strategies:

1. Mist generously 3-7 times a week,
2. Submerge completely 2-4 times a week
3. Soak for 1-2 hours once a week.

To prevent rot, shake excess water out of crevices and give enough airflow for the plant to dry within 4 hours. Air plants need all the indirect sunlight they can get and should only be kept in low-light rooms temporarily. Epiphytic plants are rare in dry environments but Tillandsia recurvata is an exception. It thrives in the coastal deserts of Mexico and gets water from the marine layer.

Flowers: These take about 3 years to mature and flower and then blooms for the next 7 years. It blooms from a simple inflorescence with a spike head at the end of thin and scaly stalk. The inflorescence grows very few flowers, sometimes even only a single flower.  The small 3 mm flowers are sessile, nontubular and mauve or purple in color.
