That's it? Yeah, there are the normal eye black stickers, but that's as much a part of your look as the tattoos on the inside of your right arm. (You even took your official WTA headshot with them this year.) What's with the plain green tank top? You've worn jackets with tennis balls attached and jail stripes in recent years. Showing up to Melbourne with a plain Jane top is like Lady Gaga walking down the red carpet wearing J. Crew. Hmmm, maybe there's something wacky going on with your skirt.
A standard white skirt? I know things are little different in Australia; I've seen that "Simpsons" episode where the water goes the other way in the sink, but is there some sort of bizarro dress code in Melbourne of which I'm not aware. Care to comment, Fernando Verdasco?

Other than the fact that she looks like she's going to spring training for the Cincinnati Reds, there's nothing out of the ordinary here. Are we living in a world where Bethanie Mattek-Sands shows up to a Grand Slam looking, ugh, typical?
Wait, is that ... purple hair?
Yes, it is, indeed, purple hair (among other colors). After her first-round loss to Agnieszka Radwanska, Mattek-Sands revealed there are bits of purple, blue, orange and teal in there.
''I didn't want to cut my hair so I just did something different. I'm actually supposed to get it done here in Melbourne at a salon somewhere, so it will be a little bit brighter maybe by my doubles matches. 'I'm really liking it; it's kind of high maintenance though. My pillows are all purple, my shower's all purple. My hands look like I'm cold all the time because my hands are dyed, but I like it. I've got some feedback from the players that I should do pink, so that's an option there too.''
