Aeschynanthus
Plant in the spotlight

Aeschynanthus is a beautiful plant with long tendrils and mostly red flowers. This hanging plant, which is also a good climber, is easy to maintain and is also called a “lipstick plant” because of the shape of the flowers. Do you see this comparison?

Presentation tip: the plant looks best when its long tendrils can hang freely. Present various hanging plants together and the Aeschynanthus will stand out among the mostly other green hanging plants because of its flowers. It is also possible to present the Aeschynanthus on a table in a high pot (cross selling) in combination with other hanging plants, such as Medinilla.

From cutting to adult plant

In the wild you can find the Aeschynanthus in the moist forests of Asia, from the Himalayas to Indonesia, but here they just grow in the greenhouse. The plant hangs for about a year in the greenhouse to grow from cutting to mature plant. Because the entire process takes place in the greenhouse, it is possible to offer various types all year round. Underneath the various types of the Aeschynanthus are described.

  1. Aeschynanthus "Rasta" can be recognized by the lengthwise curling blade. The plant is available all year round and it blooms from June to January with deep red flowers.
  2. Aeschynanthus "Twister" is a compact variety with leaves that are curled in length and width. The plant is available all year round and has bright red flowers.
  3. Aeschynanthus "Mona Lisa" has large, shiny leaves and is the best quality plant in winter. This variety is available from December to mid-May and blooms with bright red flowers.
  4. Aeschynanthus "Japhrolepis" is available all year round as a green plant and usually has no flowers. The plant can be recognized by its fine, light green leaves and the plant can stand in the shade. Aeschynanthus "Caroline" The "Caroline" has smaller dark green leaves. This variety blooms with red flowers from May to July.
  5. Aeschynanthus “Pink Polka” blooms, unlike the other types, pink flowers. The plant is supplied both as a green variety and with a flower. The plant flowers from mid-February to mid-April.

5 reasons to add Aeschynanthus to the range:

  • The plant can be sold both as a hanging plant and as a standing plant.
  • Aeschynanthus is a plant that requires little care, both on your shelf and at the consumer's home.
  • The plant is unique because of its long tendrils with hidden flowers hidden on different places.
  • Hanging plants belong to the trend of 'more green in the house' and the Aeschynanthus matches perfectly with this trend.
  • Because the Aeschynanthus is used to a humid, warm climate, it can also look great in the bathroom. The plant is therefore suitable for various rooms in the house.
