Found a Hiroshima-yaki place with outdoor seating! It’s the Hiroshima version of okonomiyaki, distinct mainly for the layer of crispy fried noodles. We tried a yakisoba one with sour plum, shiso, and nori (very unusual flavor combo for this dish!) and a yakiudon one with kimchi. Outside means you don’t get to flip it yourself, but it’s still very tasty!

お好み焼きを作る // Okonomiyaki In Process
Late lunch at a teppanyaki place in Kyoto. Split a craft chuhi (Kyoto yuzu flavor) and tried the yakiniku (yum) and okonomiyaki (eh). It came with rice, miso soup, pickles, simmered root vegetables, cabbage salad, and cold sliced hot dogs with grill marks.
Happy news today: I found an American diner! Serving traditional American fare!
Decorated in the classic Americana style!
Complete with old-fashioned American small-town hospitality! (At the register, the very friendly chef asked us to guess his age (he had just told us his age) and then dug out a USB stick and laptop to show us pictures of him and Spike Lee in the nineties.)
Obviously I’m going back at the end of the month for jerk chicken and gumbo night! Because where else are you getting that in Tokyo? Also because I forgot to try their cookies.
