Marché Jean-Talon

It’s prime time to sketch at the market and I had great company today. My sketching friend Rita Sabler is visiting Montreal with her family, so we planned a sketch outing at my favourite Marché Jean Talon. We ate, we drank coffee, we set up at a standing table in the middle of the market, and spent many hours chatting and drawing. Lots of tourists and locals stopped to chat and have a look, which made it even more fun. It was the best kind of day for sketching friends.

I didn’t have anything in particular I wanted to sketch, so I did a bit of everything. Produce, people, signs, and of course a giant mound of rhubarb which kind of took over the spread in my sketchbook.

I love Rita’s sketch — a giant market panorama! I hope she doesn’t mind if I share it here.
