Earlier this year it was confirmed that Santa Clarita’s own Valencia High School graduate, Taylor Lautner, would be playing the wise-cracking, lovable role of Jacob Black in the upcoming action-romance movie “twilight.”  I was lucky to have an opportunity to sit down and interview this extremely busy, yet “cool” young actor.  With a lively and cheerful personality that can be felt instantly when in his company, one cannot help but be delighted to meet Taylor.

Although popularly recognized as Sharkboy from “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl”, an older Taylor has dubbed himself a new call name, his own. Besides starring in “twilight”, Taylor can also be seen in the NBC show “My Own Worst Enemy” playing Christian Slater’s son, Jack Spivey.  With a TV show and a huge motion picture under his belt this young actor is not letting anything stop him from living his dreams.

As Taylor drove up to our offices for the interview I couldn’t help but laugh to myself, wouldn’t a driver’s license alone be enough for a sixteen year old?  Later, when asked, Taylor admitted that he actually had to wait two whole days before getting his license…because his birthday was on a weekend.
So I came to the conclusion that the only thing that can really stop Taylor Lautner is the DMV.

Taylor will hit the big screen on November 21, in the film “twilight”.  The movie is a Summit Entertainment film (PG-13) adaptation of Stephanie Meyers’ 2005 best selling young adult novel of the same name.  Directed by Catherine Hardwicke, it stars Lautner among a cast of other young actors including Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.  “twilight” is the first of four books in the popular “twilight” series.  It tells the story of a forbidden love between Isabella “Bella” (Stewart) a seemingly average mortal and Edward (Pattinson), a beautifully dangerous vampire.  Taylor will be sure to steal the hearts of “twilighters” along with many new found fans with his portrayal of the spunky half human, half werewolf, Jacob Black.

Taylor was excited to share his thoughts with us on being a part of this huge phenomenon, one that has attracted over six million fans both teens and adults around the world.  It was surprising to learn that he had never heard of the “twilight” books before being cast.
I asked Lautner about his character, Jacob Black. “I am definitely a lot like Jacob’s human side, we are both outgoing and friendly.  However, I am very different from his werewolf side, which is very fierce.  It’s fun to play a character that’s a lot like you, but it’s challenging to play a character that is at the same time quite different than you are.”

Taylor’s favorite book of the series is “Eclipse”, because it’s where the love triangle comes into play.  Furthermore, Lautner also made the amusing comment that if he could play any other character besides Jacob it would be James so he could kill Edward, so Jacob could end up with Bella.  After a moment, Lautner laughed as he realized that he would just be Edward.

It seems as though many “twilight” book fans are a little worried, as is normal when one’s favorite book comes to life.  Being a huge “twilight” fan myself I was eager to hear how Taylor felt about the popularly talked about apprehensions in regard to the book versus the movie.  “I think the book fans are going to be very happy with the “twilight” movie.  It tells the story perfectly!  We have romance for the girls, which they are going to love but we also have action for the guys.”  So do not worry twilighters, there you go, you heard it here!
However, if you’re not familiar with the “twilight” saga and you can’t decide whether to read the book or watch the movie first, here’s what Taylor had to say. “You can go either way, they are really both so alike.”

After talking with Taylor it is no wonder why fans are so thrilled to see him play their favorite character.  Fans near and far are beaming about the release of “twilight” and even more are screaming for Taylor Lautner.
