BluEarth commissions 60-MW wind park in Ontario

Canadian green projects developer BluEarth Renewables Inc and the Batchewana First Nation of Ojibways (BFN) have commissioned the roughly 60-MW Bow Lake wind farm in Ontario province, they said on Tuesday.

The wind park is located some 80 km (49.7 miles) northwest of Sault Ste Marie and consists of 36 pieces of 1.62-MW GE wind turbines. The machines have the combined capacity to generate enough electricity to cover the annual consumption of about 15,000 local homes.

The plant is selling its output under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Independent Electricity System Operator.

Calgary-based BluEarth and BFN developed the project through Nodin Kitagan Limited Partnership and Nodin Kitagan 2 Limited Partnership. They received the approval for the scheme from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment in December 2013.
