UPDATE MAY 10, 2023

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has announced 21 properties have been downgraded from an Evacuation Order to an Evacuation Alert, which means residents on these properties can return home. Three addresses on Clayhurst Road and two addresses on Moose Creek Road remain under the Evacuation Order. There are no changes to the Red Creek Evacuation Orders or Alerts.

Returning residents are being advised to use extra caution as there are downed powerlines throughout the area. All downed power lines should be treated as dangerous, and it’s important to stay at least 10 metres away. If powerlines are across roads or other access points on or near property, or if there are any other emergency concerns about the power outage, residents are asked to contact White Cap Resources, the contractor for BC Hydro, at 1 250-262-2405 and ask for on-call electricians, or BC Hydro directly at 1-800-224-9376.

UPDATE MAY 8, 2023

The Evacuation Alerts and Orders remain in place for the Boundary Lake and Red Creek Fire, and we are monitoring the situation closely.. Residents under Evacuation Orders: Please check in at the Reception Centre at the North Peace Arena – 9805 96 Avenue, Fort St John. The hours at the Reception Centre vary daily; however, you can also call 250-794-3310 after hours for Emergency Support Service. The Reception Centre assists evacuees with support such as lodging, medical needs and other immediate support needs.

Red Creek Wildfire:

BC Wildfire Services has advised us that they will be placing Structure Protection Units (SPUs) on both sides of Highway 97 for the Red Creek Wildfire. This is a precautionary measure in case of unexpected changes in the fire situation.

UPDATE May 7, 2023 5:00pm:

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has changed the areas affected by the Boundary Lake Evacuation as of 5:30 p.m. May 7, 2023. Some properties in the Boundary Lake/Goodlow area, north of Cecil Lake Road and west of 213 Road, have been downgraded to an Evacuation Alert and those residents can return home. However, properties west of the Alberta border to 213 Road remain under the Evacuation Order. There are no changes to the Red Creek Evacuation Orders or Alerts.

Residents under Evacuation Orders are urged to check in at the Reception Centre at the North Peace Arena in Fort St. John as this lets the PRRD know they have evacuated safely. For after-hours assistance, please call 1-250-794-3310. The Emergency Support Services team is there to help with critical needs, such as arranging lodging, sourcing medicine and other essential needs.

UPDATE May 6, 2023 7:30pm:

As of Saturday evening, the Boundary Lake wildfire was estimated at approximately 1,900 hectares and has been growing aggressively due to strong winds. The Red Creek wildfire was last estimated at 1,550 hectares and growing. Portions of Red Creek Road, Cecil Lake Road, Clayhurst Road and Lower Cache Road are closed due to the fires. The PRRD has declared a State of Local Emergency for Electoral Area B.

The current Evacuation Orders and Alerts for the Boundary Lake and Red Creek areas with lists of affected properties and instructions for residents are available on the Peace River Regional District website.

UPDATE May 6, 2023:

There are two active wildfires in the Dawson Creek and Fort St. John region that have resulted in evacuation orders and alerts.  

The Red Creek wildfire is northwest of Fort St. John while the Boundary Lake wildfire is active north of Dawson Creek and east of Fort St. John.
