Former world number three Nadia Petrova of Russia has ended her tennis career in the wake of long injury trouble, the Women’s Tennis Association Tour said on Wednesday.

However, Petrova, 34, had not played since the end of 2013, and several comeback attempts failed.

“I’ve been in tennis for so many years. I had a very long and very good career.

“I dealt with a lot of injuries, like most of us, but it’s important for me to finally turn the page in my book,’’ she told the WTA.

The 1998 French Open junior champion Petrova won 13 WTA singles titles and reached the number three spot in May 2006.

She was also successful in doubles with 24 titles, including two at the Tour Finals.

She also won Olympic doubles bronze in 2012.
