Katy Perry: Orlando Bloom’s relationship with son ‘influenced’ me to ‘breed’

Becoming a mother may not have been Katy Perry’s teenage dream, but Orlando Bloom’s bond with his son, Flynn, “influenced” her desire for kids.

The “American Idol” judge, 37, explained in a recent “Dear Chelsea” podcast episode that she initially did not consider herself to be a “very maternal” person.

“My fans and my friends, they all called me mom because I love to take care of people,” the singer told host Chelsea Handler.

“I find joy through other people’s joy. Like, if they’re having a great time, I’m having a great time,” she continued. “But still, there was a little bit of a disconnect.”

When the songwriter began dating Bloom, 45, in 2016, Perry “saw what a great dad he was” to Flynn, whom he shares with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.

“That definitely primally influenced me,” the “Firework” singer explained. “Something inside of me said, ‘You, mid-30s, this man is nice. Must breed.’”

She and the England native briefly split in 2017, but reunited the following year. Bloom then got down on one knee in February 2019.

Perry revealed in her March 2020 “Never Worn White” music video that she and her fiancé were expecting their first child together.

“It wasn’t an accident,” the then-expectant star subsequently said of her pregnancy in a SiriusXM interview. “We were both looking forward to this new interval of life and sharing this.”

The pair’s daughter, Daisy, arrived in August 2020.

“We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” the couple captioned a black-and-white Instagram photo of their baby girl’s hand at the time.

However, with an ongoing Vegas residency, Perry is not in a rush to give the toddler another sibling anytime soon.

“I can’t do that show with anything in my belly,” Perry joked to E! News in April. “Especially a human.”

The California native also gushed about the little one’s milestones, adorably telling the outlet, “She’s running, she says ‘I love you,’ she colors [and] she’s got pigtails.”
