STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State women's tennis assistant coach Jamea Jackson was selected to coach the 2010 USTA Women's Summer Collegiate Team, the USTA announced Thursday.

“I enjoyed competing on the tour,” Jackson said. “Now I look forward to the opportunity to pass on my knowledge to current players as a coach.”

The USTA, which funds the program, began the team in 1996 as a training program for the top American collegiate tennis athletes to gain exposure to the USTA Pro Circuit.

The team will be made up of 12 collegiate athletes to be named after the NCAA Championships in May. Selections will be made based on performance at the championships, ITA All-Americans, National Indoor Championships and the final ITA National Rankings.

Jackson will be joined on the coaching staff by Julia Scaringe from the University of Notre Dame.

“We are excited to name two up and coming coaches like Jamea and Julia to coach the USTA Summer Collegiate Team,” said Ola Malmqvist, Head of Women's Tennis, USTA Player Development. “They will be excellent role models and mentors for our top collegians.”

The 23-year-old Jackson is in her first year as assistant coach for the Oklahoma State women's tennis program. As a professional, she was ranked as high as No. 45 on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, made the third round of all four Grand Slams and recorded wins over several world-class athletes including Maria Sharapova and Jelena Jankovic.
