Radwanska to Clash With Lisicki in Wimbledon Semis

July 2, 2013 | By Erin Brown

Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, the 2013 Wimbledon number four seed, defeated Li Na from China to make it to the semifinals at the All-England Lawn Tennis Club. She won the match in three sets by a score of 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-2. The match took three-and-a-half hours to complete due to rain delays, an injury timeout, and a final game that took 10 minutes. The first two sets were close, but she held on to her lead of two breaks in the third to win. While Li Na had almost double the amount of winners, Radwanska also had half the amount of unforced errors that Li Na did.

Last year, Radwanska was a finalist at Wimbledon, and she was the first Polish woman in a Grand Slam final since 1939. The next opponent up for Radwanska is the player who upset the top-seeded Serena Williams just yesterday, Sabine Lisicki who had to beat out Kaia Kanepi to make it to the semifinals after her 6-3, 6-3 victory. In just over an hour, Lisicki was able to back up her win against Serena, with a win in the quarterfinals.

This year’s Wimbledon has been a story of upsets and injuries, and Lisicki is one of the only players to back up her win over a top player. She broke Kanepi in the first game, and was able to be aggressive and did not back down the entire match.

"There was no pressure for me at all after yesterday’s win," said Lisicki. "I needed to make the switch quickly and focus on today’s match and that’s what I did. I think I did a good job today."

Kanepi took out British hopeful Laura Robson in the previous round. Kanepi never looked comfortable on the court, and Lisicki took advantage of that.

“I am hitting the ball well and moving well. Agnieszka Radwanska plays a very smart game," said Lisicki of her next-round opponent. "She moves well around the court. She was in the final last year, so she has a lot of confidence with that."
