Station beefs up security, Millaa Millaa

Assistant Commissioner Paul Taylor is supportive of the new CCTV Cameras at Millaa Millaa

Treasurer Curtis Pitt last week announced Millaa Millaa Police station is the new location for a trial CCTV pilot program.

Officers in smaller rural areas such as Millaa Millaa often are provided with onsite accommodation at police stations.

Queensland Treasurer Mr Curtis Pitt MP explained our Government have a responsibility to put measures in place to protect our police establishments and the police officers protecting our community, especially whilst they are home in their police residences.

“I want to ensure they feel safe at home, that they’re able to separate their personal and professional lives and comfortably spend time with their families at the police residence,” Mr Pitt said.

“This is great for locals who have the peace of mind of always knowing where they can find their local cop, unfortunately it also means local delinquents have an easy target.”

The CCTV cameras will be installed and operating by the end of January to enhance security around the station.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Taylor welcomed the CCTV trial at Millaa Millaa Police Station and said there was unfortunately reports of disturbances and vandalism at some rural stations in the past, including Millaa Millaa.

“I want perpetrators to know that their behaviour won’t be tolerated by their community or by the police – you will be apprehended and you will be prosecuted,” Assistant Commissioner Taylor said.

The trial will be evaluated at the appropriate time to assess its effectiveness.
