How to Build a Golf Outfit for Less Than $100 at Ross

We’ve all heard this tired old line: “Golf is expensive.”

My response? It doesn’t have to be. Let me explain.

I admit I’m a sucker for nice golf gear. Heck, I’m the one who reviewed a $400 pair of pants. That said, my true passion (granted, hard to believe) is finding a way to make the game less expensive. 

No one is more thrifty than I am when it comes to purchasing golf gear. Hence, I’ve learned a thing or two about finding name-brand gear for almost unbelievable prices. Are you ready to climb down the deep discount rabbit hole with me? You’re in for a treat. 

The truth is that, with a little patience and gusto, you can find an entire wardrobe of great golf apparel, shoes and accessories at one of the country’s leading bargain stores: Ross. 

Yes, the secret is out of the bag. Ross is a fantastic place to buy gear from your favorite brands like NIKE, adidas, Callaway and PUMA. I’ve made it my mission to teach you the tricks of the trade so you can save big money. 

Ready, friend? Here’s how you can build an entire golf wardrobe for less than $100 at Ross. 

Why Ross?

I know what you’re thinking: Ross is where old people shop. That’s rather facile. Ross is where EVERYONE should be shopping to save money on golf gear. 

Ross purchases their products directly from the manufacturer. Often, the gear is one of two things:

1. Out of season. Product lines are cyclical and, when the current line is no longer relevant, it makes its way to Ross.
2. Imperfect. Items that can’t be sold as new at retailers like NIKE, adidas, etc., often find a home at Ross. 

These two things are what give Ross the ability to drop prices and offer a very competitive discount on name-brand products. 

What I found on my most recent Ross escapade

The best (and most frustrating) thing about Ross is the selection. The shelves and racks are ever changing, meaning you may not find anything one day but may find a few good pieces the next. 

This is what makes it fun. The thrill of the hunt is almost as fun as seeing the final receipt. Here’s what I found on my most recent trip to Ross.

Under Armour Vest – $34.99 ($120)

Ross is a solid place to find great golf outwear for the upcoming winter season. I found this sleek, insulated Under Armour vest on clearance for $34.99. Yes, please!

NIKE Dri-FIT Player Men’s Lobster Print Golf Polo – $24.99 ($75)

Remember that thing I said about product cycles? This NIKE polo was designed for for the 2022 U.S. Open. A year later, you can buy it at Ross for an awesome price.

adidas Performance Golf Polo – $19.99 ($49.99)

Looking for an even more economical polo? Most adidas polos you find at Ross are less than $20. You can tell this guy is at least one season old because it still has the “adidas” text underneath the logo. The brand has since switched to using only the Three Stripes logo with no wordmark.

RLX GOLF Tailored Fit 5 Pocket Golf Pant – $39.99 ($115)

These fancy RLX GOLF pants retail for $115. Seems a little steep, right? No matter. Ross has them for $39.99. I saw multiple pairs of these in nearly every waist size.

Callaway Everplay Five-Pocket Pants – $21.99 ($87.95)

RLX not your thing? Callaway golf pants are everywhere at Ross. I found a pair that was marked down even further than normal. You can’t beat $22 for a pair of name-brand golf pants.

I don’t have enough time to detail everything I saw at Ross nor did I take enough photos to do so. That said, here are a few accessory items I think you’ll be interested in.

Many Ways to Slice It

How much you save (and spend) at Ross depends largely on what you value. If you’d rather spend more money on a vest, then saving a few bucks on Callaway pants instead of splurging on the RLX pair is probably the best course of action.

No matter how you look at it, you’ve got options. Here are a few ways you could solve this problem:

Outfit #1: $98.96

• Under Armour vest
• adidas polo
• RLX pants
• Wilson towel

Outfit #2: $74.45

• NIKE polo
• Callaway pants
• adidas hat
• NIKE glove
• Wilson golf balls

Whichever route you choose, know this: Ross has plenty of options for any budget. Obviously, the gear shown here may not be exactly what you find at your local store. Rest assured, though, the discount golf gear is abundant and aplenty.

Shopping at Ross: Tips and Tricks from an Expert Bargain Hunter

• Ross has a propensity to buy a lot of stock from the same retailers. This means that often items you find at one Ross location are more than likely at another. When a Ross store is overloaded with a particular item (I found more than 10 of the same Wilson golf towel), I call this a “flood.”
• One-off items do pop up occasionally. These are typically of higher value and are much more limited in stock. A rare find like this could score you some limited (or even sold-out) gear for a great price. Finds like this are also easy to flip for some extra cash. (I’ll do an entire article on this later.)
• Don’t skip over the shoe section. While this trip to Ross didn’t yield any golf shoe finds, I found loads of pairs during the summer months. Hint: Most NIKE golf shoes at Ross are marked down to less than $50.

Above all: Have fun! Shopping for golf gear at Ross requires patience but the rewards well outweigh the time requirements. So save a few bucks and go get yourself some new clothes. You deserve it.
