There's lots of news brimming at Jean Talon Market of late. For starters, Plateau dessert favourite Juliette et Chocolat plans to open its new location on July 11 right next to Pourvoyeur. The team confirms the new spot will rival the St-Denis location in size and scope. The shop will join fellow sweets shop Pâtisserie Gascogne, which recently set up shop at the market complete with a new specialty rye bread called "Le Gascon."

Following months of speculation, Gusta, purveyor of vegan charcuterie and cheeses confirms to Eater it will open a storefront in "early to mid August," right next to the new Juliette et Chocolat location. The 35-seat shop's menu will include a vegan "grilled cheese" sandwich, limited-edition cheeses, a hot dog, and poutine in addition to the usual vegetable-protein sausages and cheeses. A slew of local beers will be available on tap.

These spots will join Tête Carrée, a seasonal lunch spot from former Garde Manger chef de cuisine Joshua Lauridsen that has been taking shape for the past eight weeks or so. The stall serves grilled flatbreads ("more of a cross between a flatbread and a naan," notes Lauridsen) topped with seasonal ingredients available in Quebec province, like homemade ricotta, grilled zucchini, radishes, turnips, and pickled celery hearts. Seasonal lemonades round out the drinks menu.

There's more novelty over at the market's Olive and Olives boutique, where chef Marie-Fleur St-Pierre added a new line of ready-to-eat meals last Monday. According to La Presse, options include a seasonal selection of soups, salads, and more.

Finally, for those who like to sample the newest food producers on the scene, try Les Samedis Découverte (Discovery Saturdays) which will kick off July 9th. The weekly event will feature up-and-coming local food producers at Place Casgrain. Initial vendors include Kingsley Desserts, Djinn Sirop, Les Petits Trésors, Biscuits et Cie., Petit Mont Royal inc. - Biscuiterie Artisanale, and Cure de Jouvence Cissy. Discover Saturdays will happen through summer, until September 10th. Look out for occasional guests such as Mark’s Hot Sauce, Alvéole, and Ferme d’Achille.
