Is Having Christian Tattoos — Taboo?

Choosing a tattoo and having one placed on your body is a very personal choice. This is true even for Christians. Although Christians feel it is taboo to desecrate the body, or “their temple”, other Christians feel it is a way to display their faith publicly and permanently. Christian tattoos are essentially a way of professing ones faith.

What better way to represent the one thing that means more than anything to you — your faith. Living by faith is one thing. Proving your faith by literally wearing it on your sleeve is another.

Choosing a Christian tattoo can be an even harder decision than the actual decision to get a tattoo. In that case here are some things to keep in mind when choosing a Christian tattoo, or any tattoo for that matter.

  • Tattoos are Permanent — Once you choose a tattoo and have it placed, you can’t just wash it off. Make sure it is something you will want on your body permanently — even when you get wrinkly and the tattoo starts feeling the gravitational pull like the rest of your body.
  • Choosing the Actual Tattoo — You need to choose a tattoo that represents you and your faith. For some this might be Jesus and the crown of thorns, for others it may be their favorite scripture, and yet others may choose to have a scroll with they favorite Christian songs chorus. Again, this is a personal choice but knowing ahead of the actual tattoo appointment, never hurts.
  • Tattoo Placement — You need to be sure the tattoo you choose will be placed where you can hide it at church — if you are on the more conservative side — or placed where you can use it as a display of faith.

Knowing these three simple things to keep in mind will help you decide more effectively whether getting a tattoo is the right thing for you as a Christian or if it is — well taboo. This is a decision that will affect the rest of your life, and for some, they believe it will affect their eternity also. Any tattoo needs the same consideration, whether you are a Christian or not the tattoo you choose will be with you for your lifetime. With that said, now let’s move on to choosing the styles of Christian tattoos. Here are some other examples of Christian tattoos.

Now that you have seen a few examples, examined your own faith, you now have to decide — are Christian tattoos — taboo? You have been given the information needed to make this decision, now it is up to you to decide if you — or where and when — you will be getting your own Christian tattoo. Use the designs shown here and try to come up with your own unique extension of your faith. Share your faith with the world and do it in style. There is no better way to share your faith with everyone you meet then through your new tattoo. Man is given free will, what will you do?
