So Before We Get Started-What Is Style Imitating Art?

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspirational image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art-inspired outfits. The next Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

Why Did I Pick This Work of Art?

I am again going with one of my all-time favorites to view when I visit the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. This painting is a mix of still-life and landscape, with the Californian coast being the subject of the landscape. It’s a medium size painting, about a five-foot square, but large enough to get lost in. It’s an excellent painting for meditation. I can just get lost in all those blues.

Richard Diebenkorn was an American abstract painter who was influenced by the Abstract Expressionism movement of the fifties. He was born in 1922 and passed away in 1993, at the age of seventy-one. There is a strong foundation dedicated to his life and art, which can be found HERE.
