It was one of those wonderfully romantic Sunday afternoons that you can only have with yourself when it is raining in NYC.

I decided to walk off the brunch I had just had with a friend and ran into the smallest and loveliest shop on a quiet street.

The selection was amazing. Plush fur, cashmere sweaters, vintage jewelry, fancy hats and gloves. I spend what seemed like all night there.

      I will defintely go back.

There are two birds stuck between the bars and the window at the back of the shop. They have obviously been there forever. They are slowly dying and mangled from trying to escape. They are surrounded by their own feces and they were screaming for help when I was browsing by the window. It was heart wrenching and disgusting to see this while shopping for a wedding dress. I question why no one at the shop has had the heart to help the poor creatures and how you can turn a blind eye to such a thing. Unfortunately my shopping experience was ruined by this.

This is a true vintage shop. All the items are excellently curated and in terrific shape. They have a sister shop in williamsburg but all the nice ladies' clothes are sent here. Blouses, dresses, sweaters, purses, shoes and boots, costume jewelry, belts, gloves, hats and scarves, and oh yes - coats. The shop itself is small so the selection isn't big-box gigantic, but what they do have is all fantastic. When I went (late February) they had three solid racks of coats/vests/capes (made of wool, leather, sheepskin, and fur). I scored an amazing vintage mink coat that i would never dream of buying new/retail.

Some reviewers are saying it's pricey, and I suppose it is if you lump Stella Dallas in with the Salvation Army, Goodwill, and even some other "higher-end" secondhand stores. But this is not any thrift shop. The items here are truly vintage and the quality is of a caliber that just doesn't exist anymore (at least not at a price point that most people can afford).

The shopkeeper was also great. She was sweet, non-pushy, helpful, and honest. I'm sure I will make more purchases from here.

Great selection, pricey shop. Pleased to find vintage batik dyed Indian print skirts which reminded me of the beloved original that I bought for $10 from the local headshop when I was 14. These babies were $64 a pop. Bought them anyway. Thanks Stella Dallas!

I had high hopes but it's just another decent vintage store. It carries dressy things (casual was not in sight) for women--dresses, skirts, jackets plus accessories including purses (mostly clutches, evening bags), some shoes, jewelry, and hats. There was a good vintage atmosphere in addition to the well-cared for items.

But the clothes that they actually carried, I didn't see as buyable. However, the nice thing about vintage is that you can almost always make it work. Also, the prices ran about average for this city (i.e. $45 for a long skirt) and weren't outrageous for what it is. It isn't at the top of vintage stores in the city, but if you have time or are in the area, stop by!

As much as I want to write a good review for Stella Dallas, being that the assortment of vintage clothing and other garments are just too cool, I will not go back to this place due to the employees. Rude, ignorant, and unwilling to answer a simple question such as "Do you accept credit cards?" (I was only curious)! Even if the only form of communication between myself and the workers was at checkout, they made it clear enough that they did not care for my business, my questions, and apparently my money.

Brooklyn has too many other vintage and thrift store gems that I would rather spend my money at.

I'm in love with the rack of clothes outside; they are cheaper than the dresses inside but are still completely worthwhile! No rag rack here! The items that are more expensive are definitely so for a reason. A 50's cocktail dress with intricate lace and bead-work in perfect condition is very well worth more money. When I'm in need for a special occasion outfit, I'm coming here first! The selection of fancy dresses is superb.

This store is so well curated. There are well organized selections of everything. Hats, scarves, dresses, sweaters, you name it! I usually go straight to the dress section in other stores but I find myself looking through EVERYTHING here. I haven't left without buying anything yet and I don't plan to start!

Great selection and sales associate. The woman attending to the shop was so helpful and sweet!

I found sooo many things I liked and the prices were reasonable. Can't wait to go again! Definitely my favorite vintage shop in NYC.
