How was the take out experience? Thanks

      A:

The food quality appears worse without the well put together decor and ambiance - once you take away the decor and design, the food feels greatly overpriced and low quality.

This is my family's go to restaurant now. It's our favorite place for lunch and dinner. They are
Short on staff but the staff is friendly and chill. They are very accommodating and have been wonderful with my baby.

Their milk teas are strong and some set lunch dishes come a hot tea. +$1 for cold and also it's a larger size.

A few times the food was on the saltier side so we just asked them to not put too much salt. The food came out great! Just let them know your preference.

We love all the dishes that we have tried so far. I love coming brunch hours and eating the butter pineapple buns!!! Prices are ok because the size is decent. Also recommend the cold chicken special dish that they have, I think it's liek $27
For a whole chicken or something! It's salty and they pair it with ginger scallion oil. We get the whole chicken every time we come here.

This place is relaxing and we are mahjong addicts so I love the tiles everywhere. I also love the ktv songs they have on, all the 90s oldies! Loveeee. Wish they had a haha.

      Do bring cash, CASH ONLY!!!

Decided to visit without previous knowledge. The ambiance was nice, but we were confused walking in and the staff was shocked to see customers arrive at 6:55 pm. We soon found out that the most popular Cha Chan Teng menu items weren't served after 7pm and only a small menu items of Chinese rice and noddle dishes were available as the chef changed. While these were delicious (although a bit high in sodium) it wasn't what we were hoping for.

Now this is defn. our fault for not checking in advance, but we felt the menu available to us were ones we see in abundance in the other Chinese restaurants around the Flushing neighborhood.
Kind of a shame in my opinion since they're open from 9am -10pm daily. They would definitely make more business from the 7pm-10pm mark if they ran one menu of just the classic popular items all day.

Menu was promising as was the clean, well laid out, spacing of the tables and banquette seating arrangements. Certain dishes were just meh. Hit or miss best describes my lunch experience. I'm sad about that as I really wanted this place to live up to the hype and because I liked the menu offerings.

The entree to try: it was a lunch plate, steak with A1 sauce - it was really good but two things, first, it's not A1 sauce - it was a sweet BBQ type sauce that is traditionally used for Peking style pork chops so it was sweet and sour not savory! Second, it was breaded steak, not pan seared. So not what I had in mind at all. However, as I've said, it was really good. The steak was tender and still medium, very pliable and a good portion. Ok to share if you order other appetizers.

      For the appetizers:
      - ordered the fried fish skins - these were fantastic, very crispy and flavorful. Tad oily but not surprised. The broth/soup it was paired with was very salty and it had a mineral/innards after taste so we opted not to partake. Sampled it and that's it. I'm sure others may like it to dip the fish skins in but I didn't mind eating it dry, without the soup.
      - ordered the spring rolls, well executed, crispy and not too oily. Filled with vegetables, vegetarian friendly. Liked the dipping sauce as well. Sweet and sour.
      - and tried the squid and curry fish balls. These were most disappointing as the curry tasted watered down. Good color but not flavor. The squid was cooked al dente and the fish balls were few in quantity, potatoes were more present in this dish. We didn't bother finishing it. Just meh.

I did enjoy my honey lemon tea. Great flavor and plenty of lemon slices. I enjoyed that a lot. Took the drink to go and enjoyed it all afternoon. Bring cash as cash is King here.

Just swung by Mahjong on a friend's recommendation, and it's like a blast from the past with its old-school Hong Kong cafe vibes! Tried out their curry fish balls, wonton noodle soup, and the luncheon meat and egg ramen noodle soup. Overall, it was decent--the curry fish balls were alright, and the noodle in the wonton soup was a bit overdone, but the shrimp-filled wontons really hit the spot! There might be better spots around, but Mahjoong's got its own charm.

It was a great spot for relaxed ambience for authentic Hong Kong cuisine! It's totally kid-friendly, small groups, even date night! The interior decor is modern, chic with album records on the walls, old school rotary phone, cute library lamps, just so adorable inside. Yes, what I meant by that is it's great for photographs!

What I loved most that my friend and I ordered the wonton noodles. The wontons were delicious with fresh bits of shrimp in each bite. We secretly wanted like 5 more orders, but alas I digress. (Wontons are like square wrappers filled with meat, seafood, or veggies. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonton).

We also ordered the braised beef stew (the special) which was delicious but the meat was chewy, so we most likely will try something else next time. Our eel dish was filling with scrambled eggs and a huge helping of rice. Our waiter was nice and not pushy. He spoke English and Cantonese. I liked how he provided us hot tea with our meal. The prices seem a bit expensive, but it had a grown up feel to it. I felt it had a good vibe to me. The service was laid back, not intense.

There's a television with karaoke and traditional greats singing the old school Hong Kong (HK) classics. The menu looks like a cha chaan tan, because it had condensed milk butter toast, HK style tea (super strong usually), traditional things found in HK like curry squid, egg sandwiches, Pineapple buns, Singapore fried noodles, baked meat with cheese.

They have some good lunch specials, but flavor was ok. Ordered their beef curry with rice and not much curry flavor.

Worst Hong Kong cafe experience goes to here.

I have never seen a more unprofessional staff than here. No one greets you at the entrance. I didn't know I was at a dim sum place, but it really felt that way grabbing seats at first during rush lunch hour.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but my patience was drawn again when it was so difficult to flag them down to order. They didn't even come over with any water. Note they seem to no longer offer their Baked Portuguese dish. They also ran out of Curry Fishballs that day. My red flag radar is kicking up!

After having to ask for water ourselves, our Hong Kong Milk Tea arrived. In takeout cups. I saw there were mugs, so I'm not sure why everyone was being served tea in the most unaesthetic containers for a place that is decked out in aesthetic. Their tea is on the bitter side, but I think that is the Hong Kong way. Not our preference though.

We got the Vegetarian Pan Fried Noodle, which thank goodness, tasted fantastic. You can taste the strong wok flavor and smell to it. Their Hong Kong French Toast was not the best I had though, more on the dry doughy side. I think it was because of the missing condense milk drizzle.

When the worker dropped a chopstick when we were about to leave, he really used his foot to drag it over to him. It says a lot about the cleanliness here, especially if you visited their bathroom! Cash only, but spend that cash elsewhere.

      CASH ONLY!!!

Came here with a group of friends. I believe the mahjong wall art was what attracted my friends thanks to IG and Tik-Tok. Food overall, I think you can get elsewhere that would taste better for a lower price. If you're in Manhattan, this is not worth the trip to Flushing to try as you'll be disappointed. The shops in Chinatown are much better.

We mainly ordered off the "Executive Lunch" menu. Most items are either $12 or $14 and comes with a cup of hot milk tea. If you want a cold drink instead, it'll cost you a dollar extra.
Fried Rice Vermicelli in Singapore Style ($14) - If you ever ordered Singapore Mei Fun or anything equivalent to this, that's what this dish is. Pretty standard noodle dish that didn't really wow me.
Beef Brisket Over Rice w Curry Sauce ($12) - This was pretty decent.

On the back of the menu you'll find the appetizers and other more adventurous meals.
French Toast HK Style w Milk ($5.50) - This was the highlight for me. Didn't use the syrup provided as I thought the condensed milk in the center made it sweet enough.
Fishballs in Curry Sauce ($6.50) - This was good, but can get elsewhere for better price.
Fried Mini Buns ($6) - comes with a plate of condensed milk, which is essential to make this appetizer taste amazing. Otherwise you're consuming plain mantou that has been deep fried. Also don't let this sit out too long or it'll lose its texture.

The milk tea for some reason came a good 15 minutes after all of our food came out. Not sure why that was or why they didn't brew enough milk tea in the first place. Service you'll need to chase someone down if you need something. Otherwise, enjoy the old HK decor and music.

Cute Hong Kong Cafe located on a quieter street of Flushing. The beaming decorations take me back to an older time and the dim green table lamps help set the mood of a mahjong parlor. I came with my friend for the first time and we ordered a lunch special, two apps and two drinks to share. It was just the right amount of food. The lunch special usually comes with a hot milk tea but we upgraded it to a red bean ice with coconut milk for an additional $2. It was good and currently they serve their cold drinks in take out cups.

We wanted to try two things we saw on Yelp that were no longer on the menu, a chicken cutlet and the shrimp toast. Instead, we went with one of the server's recommendations of the baked pork chop with tomato sauce over spaghetti and it blew our minds! We also ordered curry fish balls which came very quickly and a tad cold. The curry is on the milder side and not spicy at all. The French toast was delicious with the traditional peanut butter condensed milk and syrup!

It came out to $22 per person including tip and tax for an after hi-tea which is not bad nowadays. Will definitely come back and try more things!

After the traumatic experience at Mabu I become skeptical about fancy HK cafes, but Mahjong is an exception.

They offer fast service, comfortable seatings, and meals at adequate prices. The servers told us that all the dishes were approved by their Hongkonger boss, which explained why their food taste authentic!

      * Singaporean Pan Fried Rice Vermicelli 星洲炒米***
      * Vegetarian Pan Fried Noodles 羅漢齋炒麵
Their pan fried noodles are endowed with "wok hei", yet less salty and less oily compared to the ones from other HK cafes. The portion is so big that one noodle dish can feed a small family.

      * Curry Squid & Fishballs 咖喱魚蛋魷魚***
Bouncy fishballs and chewy squid. The curry sauce was incredibly flavorful but not spicy. You can still enjoy this classic HK street food even if your spice tolerance is low.

      * HK Style French Toast 奶醬西多士
Look how tall this french toast was! It was composed of three layers of fluffy toast. We mistakenly ordered it with condensed milk fillings. It would taste even better with peanut butter.

      * Egg Sandwich 雞蛋三明治
I seldom order egg sandwich because I can simply make one at home. But the thickness and fluffiness of their fried egg makes it stand out from an ordinary egg sandwich.

      * HK Style Milk Tea 港式絲襪奶茶***
I will rank their milk tea as the best in Queens, while S Wan Cafe in Chinatown and Xin Fa in Brooklyn still top the chart. It has a rich and creamy texture from the Ceylon tea and balances well with the evaporated milk.
