It's free to see. It's free to take your picture with it. It helps you know you've arrived in front of the National Art Museum and the Notre Dame Cathedral. Love it.
Do not miss the opportunity to check it out even if the other places are closed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Heart Of The Village I.Shelburne, United States03071Dec 11, 2019
An extremely impressive statue - in more ways than one. If spiders are simply not your thing, simply skip this marvel. Art is not for everyone.

Maman, just killed a man..........
I've always loved this giant spider ever since I have driven by it for ten years. It sits in front of the National gallery on guard to attack those who dislike and smash spiders in their homes. Remember folks. Spiders have feelings....Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Apr 30, 2017
This is the 2nd piece by Louise Bourgeois that I've seen. I was able to see Spider when I was in Washington DC. It is a simple metal spider, but so cool as the entrance to the museum. Best part? It's completely free and really easy to grab a picture of it.

Back in 2005, Canadians put to question the expensive price tag of $3.2 million for eight legs, a head, a torso and egg sack: An alternative modern sculpture weighing 6000 kilograms. The National Gallery of Canada had acquired a giant spider sculpture called Maman, by Louise Bourgeois.
If you are worried about finding the Gallery, fret not, as Ottawa's coolest landmarks will make it clear that you have reached your destination.
The giant bronze spider "Maman" was installed outside the Gallery in 2005. She stands more than 30 feet tall and holds 26 white marble eggs in a sac beneath her. It is now the landmark I am most proud of in the Nation's Capital - she's very photogenic.
Tourists, artists, wedding parties and locals are often seen posing with her. If you're downtown, in the Byward Market, do yourself a favour and stop by his monumental statue and take a look, if you haven't already.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Andrea B.Ottawa, ON14755921123Jan 31, 2014
Ottawa has some great sculptures around the city, and I'm going to do my beat to start reviewing them. This is my favourite one by far, as it's massive and so easy to find!
If you're a visitor to the city's downtown core there's a good chance you will spot this giant, bronze spider from miles away (it's over 30 feet tall!). It's a little like something out of a sci-fi movie - imagine giant spiders like this everywhere - ahhh! I think that's why I love it - it's so surreal and fun!
It's a must the get a picture taken under this female spider when visiting the city :)Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Ari F.Ottawa, ON012Apr 15, 2017
No interesting events ever planned. Spider in the front is terrible and been there too long. Uninteresting selection of feature artists. Poor utilization of space. Cafeteria serves street food!
