No. 1 Northwestern Tops Women’s Lacrosse In NCAA Quarterfinal

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern University used an 8-1 run between the first and second quarters to build a 10-2 lead with just over three minutes left in the first half and went on to a 16-6 run over visiting Loyola University Maryland in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Thursday night.
 
Chase Boyle caught a pass from Sarah Engle inside and scored for the eighth-seeded Greyhounds (19-3 overall) with 8:20 left in the first quarter, but the top-ranked Wildcats tallied the next six goals with Izzy Scane's score at 6:30 in the second putting them up 8-1.
 
Georgia Latch broke the 6-0 run with a Greyhounds goal at 4:45, but Erin Coykendall scored on a player-up possession, and Scane put in her fourth goal of the first half with 3:01 to go before the break, and Northwestern (19-1) led, 10-2.
 
Jillian Wilson got the Greyhounds within seven before halftime, scoring on a free-position goal with 53 ticks left on the clock, but Northwestern held Loyola scoreless in the third quarter as it added four goals.
 
Sydni Black score twice in the fourth quarter, and Chase Boyle added her second of the day for the Greyhounds.
 
The seasons wraps up for the Greyhounds with their second-most victories in school history (19). Loyola's second-straight NCAA Quarterfinal appearance and 20 wins from last year combine for the most wins in back-to-back seasons (39).
