Cavendish is one of the most visited spots of PEI during the summer months. It offers sweeping views of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and is the gateway to Prince Edward Island National Park.

The famous author Lucy Maud Montgomery was raised by her grandparents here. She would often visit her cousins at the nearby farm, Green Gables.

Cavendish and the 19th-century farm at Green Gables Heritage Place, the Haunted Woods, and Lover’s Lane were made famous by author Lucy Maud Montgomery with her stories about “Anne of Green Gables”.

Don’t miss this popular tourist destination on one of the most scenic drives on PEI, known as Green Gable Shore.

To things to do in Cavendish

Getting to Green Gables and Cavendish:

The drive directly from Charlottetown to Cavendish takes about 40 minutes for the 40 km route. However, it will likely take longer than that, with stops to admire the stunning beauty of the area. Once you are in Cavendish, it will take 40 minutes to drive to Summerside and 50 minutes to the Confederation Bridge.

• Cavendish was founded by Scottish settlers in 1779.
• Prince Edward Island National Park opened in 1937.
• The first edition of the novel Anne of Green Gables was published in 1908.
• Held annually, the Charlottetown Festival features the musical “Anne of Green Gables” in June, July, and August. Find out about tickets.
